Liquid Crystal Displays

Someone asked me to talk about how computer monitors work on thursday morning. I know how Cathode Ray Tubes work and didnt have to research much to clue up on the differences between TVs and monitors. But I felt like addressing the subject of flat screens too, since I have the internet at my disposal. I found this page: which I think is just great. Its the bit about Liquid Crystal Displays that I never understood: how do they interact with the polarity of light? And you can click on the switch in the diagram and see it working! Its great!

Oh yeah, don’t start browsing that site unless you have _lots_ of time to kill.
