Extinction Rebellion Cambridge have a campaign to reveal the close ties between the University of Cambridge and Schlumberger oilfield services and, ultimately, to get the University to sever those ties as they agreed to divest of fossil fuel investments.
Back in February 2022 they made a physical link, with yarn, paper, etc., between the University’s Senate house, in town, and Schulmberger’s offices in West Cambridge. I went along with my sketchbook.

Here we marched out toward the University Library. This was done while walking. Not great composition in that I cut the guy’s head off, but an encouraging practice of drawing while walking.

At the library there were more speeches and Rebels dressed in oil-black posed on the steps.

Those of us who made it all the way out to the West Cambridge site gathered outside Schlumberger’s building for some photography and, in my case another sketch. Yellow “Schlumberger out” banners adorned their blue corporate branding.
